The Views

During the ski season these views allow the Ski Patrol radio dispatcher to see what's happening at various points on the hill.

Notes:

1. A new picture is taken from every (working) camera every six minutes.
   - This web page is updated every twelve minutes.

2. Pictures will generally not be updated after twilight, when it gets too dark to get good pictures.
   - The sun is more than four degrees below the horizon.
   - Pictures taken at "last light" should still be useful for night-time viewers.
   - Pictures of roads and parking areas will be updated at night, since this could be of use to late-night travelers.

3. Sometimes the software gets confused and puts the wrong picture with a caption.
   - This doesn't happen too often.

4. The 'Ed cameras are multiplexed with an independent timer: We don't control when the switch happens, or which view will be seen next.

5. When visibility is reduced by clouds, fog, or precipitation, here's what you might not be seeing (sorted by elevation).

6. While there are also interesting views to the east and west, these are harder to see. Since we want to have a view of the sky in the picture, at some times of the year the camera would be pointed at a rising or setting sun. For the health of the camera, this should be avoided.
   • Between 25 April and 12 August the morning sun is within the field of view of the 'Ed chairlift camera.
     - Since this is outside of the ski season, this camera can take the Summer off.
   • Between ~27 May and ~12 August the evening sun is within the field of view of the Bowl camera.
     - Just swing it right for the summer, so the left side is the top of Blue Valley.
   • During the short days of the year, the Easy Rider camera is pointed at the rising sun.
     - This seems to be an unavoidable hazard. No damage seen yet ...
